Frequently asked questions

What is the Weekly Challenge (weekly ranking)?

Each week, every player takes on the same cursed number under the same conditions (Guardian build, Normal difficulty) and competes for the best score of the week. Play it from "Weekly Challenge" on the title screen. A new week starts every Monday at 0:00 Japan time (JST). Each week's number is fixed by the server before the week starts, so everyone plays exactly the same number. A run finished offline is sent automatically once you are back online, but a week only accepts records sent while it is open (from Monday 00:00 to 00:04 the following Monday, Japan time); a record sent after that is not counted. The result screen shows "Waiting to send" while a run is queued, "Recorded on the weekly ranking" once it is saved, and "Not recorded on the weekly ranking" if it was rejected (for example because the week had closed).

How do I join the weekly ranking, and what is sent?

The first time you open "Weekly Challenge", a consent screen explains what data is sent. Enter a nickname (1-16 characters, or tap "Random") and tap "Agree and register" to join. Once you join, your nickname, weekly ranking results (score, rank, whether you cleared, number of attempts, the time your best score was reached, etc.) and an anonymous authentication ID are sent to Google Firebase. If you choose "Not now", nothing is sent. You can enjoy every other feature of the game without joining. See the Privacy Policy for details.

What happens if I finish a week in 1st place?

The weekly champion gets to choose the cursed number for the week after next. Open the Weekly Challenge screen during the following week and a choice panel appears: enter a number from 100 to 9999 that takes at least 70 steps to reach 1 (numbers that are too easy, such as powers of two, can't be chosen). You can change it until Sunday 23:55 Japan time (JST) of that week; if you don't choose, the number is decided automatically as usual. In the week whose number you chose, the screen shows "Chosen by (your nickname)". On a tie, the player who reached that score first ranks higher. The champion's nickname is stored on our server (Google Firebase) as the week's champion record and is erased if you delete your account.

How do I stop the daily notifications?

The App may notify you around 18:00 (device time) each day about the Daily Challenge or the Weekly Challenge (not on days you have already played that day's Daily Challenge). The App asks for permission once, after your first finished run. To stop them, turn notifications off for path-to-one in your device's Settings app. The notifications are scheduled on your device only (they are not push notifications), and no information is sent anywhere for them.

How do I change my nickname?

Use "Change nickname" on the "Account" screen in the Weekly Challenge. The new name is also reflected in this week's ranking. Your nickname is visible to other players, so please do not use your real name or anything that identifies you.

How do I keep my ranking records when I change devices or reinstall?

Link an account on the "Account" screen in the Weekly Challenge (Apple ID or Google account on iOS; Google account on Android). On the new device, join the weekly ranking and link the same account; when "Existing account found" appears, tap "Switch" to switch to your previous records and nickname. The new device's unlinked records are deleted at that point. If you delete the App or change devices without linking, your ranking records cannot be carried over.

Note that game data such as adventure records, achievements, grimoire and curse marks is stored only on your device and is not transferred to another device, even with account linking.

How do I unlink my account?

Use "Unlink" on the "Account" screen. Your records and nickname remain; only the link to Apple / Google is removed. If you remove your last link, the account returns to unlinked, and you will not be able to carry over your records if you reinstall or change devices in that state.

How do I delete my account and ranking records?

Go to Title screen → Weekly Challenge → Account → "Delete account" to delete your nickname, ranking records for all weeks, your ID and nickname in any champion records, link information and account. Adventure records, curse marks and purchases on your device are kept. If you have already deleted the App, you can also request deletion by email. See Account and Data Deletion for details.

How do I change my ad settings (personalized ads)?

Use "Ad settings" on the title screen to switch between "Show personalized ads" and "Don't personalize" at any time. On iOS, personalized ads are shown only if you have not chosen "Don't personalize" and you allow tracking for the App in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. The game plays the same whichever you choose.

How do I remove ads?

Purchase "Remove Ads" in the App to hide banner and interstitial ads. Once purchased, the ad SDK (Pangle) is not started at all, so no data is collected for ads.

How do I restore my purchases?

Tap "Restore Purchases" on the title screen (while Remove Ads or Unlock Number Input has not been purchased, it is also in the shop section of the number selection screen). All three previous purchases ("Remove Ads", "Unlock Number Input" and "Overlord Build") are restored, and the result is shown. You need to be signed in to the store with the same Apple ID / Google account used for the purchase.

How do I quit a run partway through?

Tap "Quit" at the bottom of the dungeon screen and choose "Quit to title" in the confirmation (on Android, the Back gesture or button shows the same confirmation). The run's progress is lost and no score or adventure record is saved. A Daily Challenge counts as played as soon as it starts, so after quitting it (or closing the App mid-run) you can't try it again the same day. If you quit a Weekly Challenge run, that attempt is not sent to the weekly ranking (you can try again as many times as you like during the week).

Can I transfer my game progress?

Game data such as adventure records, achievements, grimoire and curse marks is stored on your device and cannot be transferred between devices. Your weekly ranking records and nickname can be carried over via account linking (see above).

How is my personal information handled?

You can play the App without creating an account. Information is sent to Google Firebase only if you join the weekly ranking or link an account. Pangle collects information in connection with displaying ads. See the Privacy Policy and Personal Data Handling for details.
