Personal Data Handling
Fuji Bit Inc. ("we", "us") handles personal information (including personally referable information) in the mobile app "path-to-one" (Japanese title: 呪われた数の迷宮; iOS / Android; the "App") as described below, in accordance with Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information and other applicable laws. This page supplements our Privacy Policy and lists the data items, how they are obtained, purposes, recipients, retention periods and your rights. If this English version and the Japanese version differ, the Japanese version prevails.
You can play the App without creating an account. Joining the weekly ranking, linking an account and personalized ads are all optional, and every game feature remains available if you choose none of them. In v4.0 we switched our ad provider from Google AdMob to Pangle and stopped using Google AdMob.
1. Business operator
- Name: Fuji Bit Inc.
- Contact for personal information: support@fujibit.com
- Address and name of representative: provided without delay upon request.
2. Information we handle and how it is obtained
| Item | When obtained | Purpose | Stored at / sent to | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nickname | When you tap "Agree and register" on the weekly ranking consent screen, or change your nickname on the "Account" screen (you can also tap "Random" to generate one) | Display on the weekly ranking | Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore). Shown publicly to other players viewing the weekly ranking (if you finish a week in 1st place, it is also recorded as that week's champion and shown in the week whose number you chose) | Until you delete your account |
| Weekly ranking results (score, rank, cleared or not, number of attempts, the week's start number, run ID to prevent duplicate submissions, the time your best score was reached (server time; used to rank whoever reached a tied score first higher), update time) | When you finish a run after joining the weekly ranking (if offline, kept temporarily on the device and sent automatically later, only as a record of the account that played the run; records sent after their week has closed are not counted) | Compiling and displaying the weekly ranking | Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) | Until you delete your account (past weeks' boards are kept) |
| Weekly champion (1st place) record (anonymous authentication ID, nickname, that week's best score, the number you chose as the champion's reward and when you chose it) | When you finish a week in 1st place (on a tie, whoever reached that score first; recorded by the server (Cloud Functions) when the week closes), and when you choose a number as the champion's reward | Granting the champion's reward (choosing the cursed number for the week after next: a number from 100 to 9999 that takes at least 70 steps to reach 1, changeable until Sunday 23:55 JST) and showing "Chosen by (your nickname)" in the week that uses the chosen number | Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore's rankingWeeks / rankingChoices). The nickname is shown publicly to other players viewing the Weekly Challenge | Until you delete your account (on deletion, the anonymous authentication ID and nickname are erased; the chosen number remains as that week's puzzle) |
| Firebase anonymous authentication ID (UID) | When you tap "Agree and register" (issued automatically by Firebase Authentication) | Linking ranking records to you and preventing others from overwriting them | Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore | Until you delete your account |
| Linked account information (Apple / Google account identifier, email address; for Google, display name and profile image URL may also be recorded) | When you optionally link an account on the "Account" screen (Apple ID or Google on iOS; Google on Android) | Carrying records to another device, identity verification | Firebase Authentication. Not shown in the ranking or disclosed to other players | Until you unlink or delete your account |
| Advertising information (Android advertising ID; iOS IDFA only if allowed via ATT, and IDFV; IP address and approximate location; device information; ad interaction data; diagnostics such as crash and performance data) | When ads are shown, after you respond to the ad screen at first launch (collected directly by the Pangle SDK; not collected if you purchased "Remove Ads") | Ad delivery, measurement and fraud prevention. Personalized ads only with your consent | Pangle (Bytedance Pte. Ltd., Singapore) | As set out in Pangle's privacy policy |
| Purchase information | On purchase or restore of "Remove Ads", "Unlock Number Input" or "Overlord Build" | Granting purchased items and restoring purchases | Payments are processed by Apple (App Store) / Google (Google Play). We do not receive payment information. Purchase state is stored only on the device | On device: until you delete the App. Stores: per each store's policy |
| On-device game data (adventure records, achievements, grimoire, curse marks, BGM mute, settings, ad choice) | During play | Running the game and showing your records | On the device only (UserDefaults on iOS, SharedPreferences on Android). Never sent | Until you delete the App |
| Daily notification schedule (notification permission state, scheduled times) | The App asks for notification permission once, after your first finished run; if allowed, reminders are scheduled when the App starts and similar | Showing a reminder around 18:00 (device time) each day (none on a day you have already played that day's Daily Challenge) | On the device only. These are not push notifications and nothing is sent. You can turn them off at any time in your device's Settings app | Until you turn notifications off or delete the App |
| Support inquiries (email address, message) | When you contact us or make a request by email | Responding to inquiries and requests, identity verification | Our email system | As long as needed to respond |
The App never asks for your name, address, phone number or device location (GPS). Because your nickname is public on the weekly ranking, please do not use your real name or anything that identifies you.
3. Purposes of use
- Providing the App's game features
- Compiling and displaying the weekly ranking, deciding the weekly champion and granting the champion's reward, and showing the chooser's nickname in the week that uses the chosen number
- Carrying records over via account linking, and identity verification
- Ad delivery and measurement (personalized ads only with consent)
- Granting in-app purchase items and restoring purchases
- Showing daily notifications (on the device only)
- Responding to inquiries and requests
- Preventing fraud and handling failures
If we need to use information beyond these purposes, we will obtain your consent in advance.
4. Provision to third parties and external transmission
We do not sell any information. Except as required by law, we do not provide personal information to third parties without your consent. The App uses the following services for the purposes above, and information is sent to these providers.
- Pangle (Bytedance Pte. Ltd., Singapore): ad delivery. The Pangle SDK does not start until you respond to the ad screen at first launch — Pangle End User Data Privacy Policy
- Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore, Firebase Authentication, Cloud Functions; provided by Google LLC, USA): storing weekly ranking and account linking data, fixing each week's number (before the week starts), deciding the weekly champion and processing the champion's reward, and processing account deletion. We entrust this processing to Google — Firebase Privacy and Security
- Sign in with Apple (Apple Inc., USA; iOS only) / Google Sign-In (Google LLC, USA): account linking, if you choose it
- App Store (Apple Inc.) / Google Play (Google LLC): payment for in-app purchases
By the nature of the ranking feature, your nickname and weekly ranking results are shown to other players. If you finish a week in 1st place, the nickname recorded as champion and the "Chosen by (your nickname)" line in the week that uses the chosen number are also shown to other players.
5. Provision to third parties in foreign countries
As described in section 4, using the App may involve personal information (including personally referable information) being provided or sent to businesses outside Japan. In accordance with Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information, we provide the following information.
- Recipient countries: Singapore (Bytedance Pte. Ltd., which operates Pangle) and the USA (Google LLC, Apple Inc.). Weekly ranking data is stored on Google Cloud servers via Firebase. The Cloud Firestore database and Cloud Functions are located in the Tokyo region (asia-northeast1), but authentication data in Firebase Authentication and other data may be processed on servers outside Japan, including in the USA. Where Pangle stores and processes data is set out in Pangle's privacy policy.
- Data protection systems in those countries: Singapore has the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA). The USA has no comprehensive federal law equivalent to Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information; personal information is protected by state laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and sector-specific laws. For details, see the Personal Information Protection Commission of Japan's survey of foreign personal information protection systems (Japanese).
- Measures taken by recipients: Google applies security measures such as encryption and access control under the Firebase data processing and security terms. Pangle, Apple and Google handle information in accordance with their respective privacy policies. We use these providers after reviewing their terms and privacy policies.
Weekly ranking data is sent only if you tap "Agree and register" on the consent screen.
6. Security measures
- Technical measures: All communication is encrypted with HTTPS (TLS). Cloud Firestore security rules restrict reads to authenticated users, limit writes to data belonging to your own anonymous authentication ID, validate nickname length (1-16 characters), and accept only scores and ranks that the scoring formula can produce. The time your best score was reached is accepted only as the server's time. Champion records and each week's number (rankingWeeks / rankingChoices) cannot be written by the App; only server-side processing (Cloud Functions) writes them. Deletion from the App is not allowed; deletion is performed only by server-side processing (Cloud Functions).
- Organizational and personnel measures: We limit who handles personal information and who can access the Firebase console, and prohibit viewing or use for any other purpose.
- Data minimization: Only the minimum information needed for the weekly ranking is sent; we do not obtain payment information, names or addresses. The ad SDK does not start until you respond to the ad screen at first launch.
- Understanding the external environment: For information processed on servers outside Japan, we handle it with an understanding of the recipient countries' systems as described in section 5.
7. Your rights (access, correction, deletion, suspension of use, etc.)
You may request notification of the purposes of use, disclosure (including records of provision to third parties), correction, addition or deletion, suspension of use or erasure, and suspension of provision to third parties for your personal information that we hold. Much of this can be done yourself in the App.
7-1. What you can do in the App
- Correct your nickname: change it on the "Account" screen in the Weekly Challenge. The new name is also reflected in this week's ranking.
- Unlink an account: "Unlink" on the "Account" screen removes the link to Apple / Google while keeping your records.
- Delete your account: Title screen → Weekly Challenge → Account → "Delete account" deletes your nickname, records for all weeks, the anonymous authentication ID and nickname in any champion records, link information and Firebase account. See Account and Data Deletion for details.
- Ad settings: change your personalized ads choice at any time with "Ad settings" on the title screen. On iOS, use Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking; on Android, use "Ads" in the device settings to stop tracking or reset / delete your advertising identifier.
- Delete on-device data: deleting the App erases the game data stored on the device.
7-2. Requests by email
Please send requests for disclosure, correction, suspension of use, deletion, etc. to support@fujibit.com. Because weekly ranking data is managed by anonymous authentication ID, we will ask for your nickname, the approximate period (weeks) you took part and, if linked, the email address of the linked account, in order to identify your records and verify your identity. Once verified, we will respond without delay (deletion requests are handled within 30 days).
For disclosure or deletion of information collected by Pangle, please contact Pangle via the contact details in its privacy policy.
8. Use by minors
The App is not directed at children under 13. Minors should obtain a parent's or guardian's consent before joining the weekly ranking, linking an account or making in-app purchases. Please do not put your real name, school name or other identifying information in your nickname. Parents or guardians who wish to have their child's information deleted may contact us as described in section 7.
9. Changes to this page
We may update this page in response to changes in law or in the App's features (such as changes to the information handled or recipients). If there are significant changes, we will announce them on this page.
